And Now, For My Next Trick…
I love the expression on her face after she puts the plate on her head. She’s all business!

Run, Mama, Run: The Cleveland Turkey Trot
The course: http://www.hermescleveland.
The weather: Cloudy, Low 40’s
The goal: A nice, leisurely run/walk with my sisters before the Thanksgiving feast
The results: 1:01:13 chip time, 4981/5500ish? overall
The review: The course was flat and fast (if you can avoid the potholes). We got to run past some nice scenery such as the Science Center, Rock Hall, and Cleveland Stadium. There was also a stretch that went through an industrial area that wasn’t as nice to run past.
There were just enough participants that I didn’t feel like I was running alone but I didn’t feel like I was trampling over people either. I saw a few jogging strollers and a lot of dogs.
Perhaps the highlight was that there was a random drawing for extra freebies and I won! I walked up to the booth and saw giant pumpkin pies (which would have been awesome) but my prize was a water bottle. This one. (It’s nice that it’s collapsible but that makes it difficult to fill. I took it with me to England and I couldn’t fill it in the airport water fountains. You need a deep sink for it to stand in. Also, when filled, it feels like I’m carrying an IV bag around.)
I’m the only one (of the five of us) who was photographed, unless you count half of Sarah’s elbow and leg. Overall it was a good time and I’d do it again. There is already talk of trying the Cincinnati Thanksgiving race next year.
Overall verdict: 4/5 jogging strollers (which again I did not actually run with)
Next race: Hmmm… I haven’t run since the Turkey Trot. Maybe I’ll take a short break and then look for some runs in 2012.

Run, Mama, Run: Fright Nite 5k (Columbus, OH)
The course: http://www.ultrafit-usa.com/frightnite5k_11.html
The weather: Clear, 39 degrees, 89% humidity
The goal: I don’t know but I finished 5 minutes faster than my last race, so WOOOO.
The results: 31:23 chip time, 92/218 females, 204/385 overall
The review: I’m short on time to devote to writing this, so let’s do this bullet style, shall we?
- I SHED FIVE MINUTES OFF MY 5K TIME WOOOO. Ahem.
- It’s pricy for a 5K. $35 pricy.
- Awesome black technical long sleeve race shirt.
- Very, very flat course. It starts on Gahanna’s Mill Street and then loops through a golf course for most of the race. The last half mile is through a “haunted forest” which is really just a boardwalk through some trees.
- It was a little bit slick. Most of the course is on the cart path, but there are a few spots where you run on the course itself. Additionally, the boardwalk was covered with fall leaves and had some sharp turns that made it challenging.
- The race is at 8pm, so it’s pretty dark. But besides the risk of turning an ankle on the dark course, there’s nothing that makes this course a “fright nite.” Needs more Halloween stuff!
- They gave out beer glasses to the first 100 male and 100 female finishers. We (Sarah and I) somehow JUST missed out on this, as the people in front of us got the last ones. I definitely would have hustled a little bit more if I had known. I was not expecting to be that close.
Again, I’m pretty happy with my time and I’ve got no soreness today from the faster pace. We might have to make this one a yearly tradition.
Overall verdict: 5/5 jogging strollers (which I did not actually run with)
Next race: Possibly the Holiday in Lights 5k in Sharonville. If not, then it’s on to the Cleveland Turkey Trot.
